This is a standard Model 1892 sporting rifle in 44 WCF with 24" round barrel, full magazine, and crescent rifle buttplate. Antique Pre-1898 production in the 131,000 serial range. Circa 1896. Only about 16% of production for this model falls into the antique serial ranges. Overall, NRA Antique Excellent condition with 80% original blue on the receiver with the edges and high wear areas worn to silvery bare metal. Bolt has 75% blue that and extractor is a little splotchy. Loading port shows 50% bright fire blue. Case colors on hammer and lever have mostly faded out to a mottled grey. Barrel and magazine tube 85% original blue with original front and rear sights. Screws are all perfect....100%. Nice early style markings include 2 line Winchester barrel address with Model and Patent dates located on the upper tang. Fine wood with perfect wood to metal fit and 50% original varnish. Action is still tight like new and bore is Excellent..bright and shiny with strong rifling with a few pinpricks down in the grooves next to the lands. A nice example of an early 1892 in 44-40 that is 100% correct and original down to the smallest screw.
