This is an early first Model 1873 Special Order Deluxe grade sporting rifle with a 28" heavy bull barrel, full magazine and crescent rifle buttplate. It also has checkered 1X burl walnut, a set trigger, and case colored frame. Like all 1st Models, its in .44 Caliber Winchester Center Fire aka 44-40. Overall condition is NRA Antique Very Good with nice markings, sharp edges, and has aged overall to a nice brown patina with silvery traces of case colors still on the frame. Original shorty style rear sight with checkered sides and a Beechs gold-washed combination globe front sight. Nice bore and mechanics. Even the set trigger works. Very Good burl walnut that is solid with no repairs or cracks. Very Good wood to metal fit. Checkering is a little worn but all there. A very solid example of an extremely rare heavy barrel 1st Model rifle that just happens to be a deluxe! We haven't had a 1st Model deluxe rifle in several years...as these rarely come up on the market.
