This is a beautiful Model 1894 Winchester that's in untouched attic condition. Caliber is 38-55. Antique serial number is in the 69,000 range. Made in 1896. Standard 26" octagon barrel, full magazine, and crescent buttplate with standard buckhorn rear sight and front with German silver blade. All the markings and knurlings are the correct early style. Barrel has the early 2-line Winchester address with maker, model, and John Browning's original patent date on the upper tang. Hammer has the early style checkering with decorative Victorian style dipped border.
Overall condition grades to NRA Antique Excellent Plus that's 100% original down to the smallest screw and pin. The metal shows 95% strong original blue with some light brown freckles in the blue from age. The surfaces show very little loss due to wear...just a couple of spots on the top corners of the receiver where the original owner rested his thumb next to the hammer while hunting (see photo). The loading port and extractor still retain nearly all of their bright original fire blue. Even the screws and magazine tube retaining pin show much of their original blue (see photos). The case colors on the hammer and lever are phenomenal with 75%+ remaining under much of the original factory lacquer. The walnut wood is in Excellent condition showing 95%+ original varnish. It has a nice light orange to light red/brown hue showing minimal darkening from age and/or dirt, oil, and grease. The mechanics are perfect and the bore is Mint. This is the nicest early 1894 in this configuration we've had in over a year.
