This is an early production Model 1894 Winchester Sporting Rifle in caliber .30 WCF, a.k.a. 30-30. It has a standard 26" octagon barrel, full magazine, and crescent rifle buttplate. Rear sight is a three-leaf Winchester Express Sight which came standard on many of the early 1894's in 30-30. Serial number is in the 24,000 range which makes it early antique pre-1898 production. It has all the early features including two-line Winchester barrel address on the top flat, "30 WCF" on the top flat ahead of receiver, no Winchester Proofs (correct for pre-1898 production), three-line upper tang markings (m'fr, model, and Browning patent date), and the 1st pattern hammer with its fancy checkering pattern with the dipped border at the top.
Overall Condition grades to NRA Antique Fine+ with 75% original blue overall. There are some silvery remains of original case colors on the lever and some mousy shadows of colors remaining on the hammer. Very Good screws overall. Original walnut stocks are nice, have never been sanded, and exhibit perfect wood-to-metal fit. With the exception of a small gouge on the left side of the buttstock, they are in Fine Condition overall. Bore is in Good condition...very little pitting with good rifling and dark grooves. May clean up better! All in all, a nice example of an early Model 1894 rifle in one of the world's first commercially available smokeless powder cartridges. These early 1894's are really getting hard to find in respectable condition and without modifications. Nice rifle!
