Winchester 1892 Rifle In 44-40

This is a very nice untouched Model 1892 Winchester Rifle in the desirable 44-40 caliber.  Standard 24" octagon barrel, full magazine, crescent buttplate, and standard factory installed sights.   Early Antique serial number is in the 37,000 range.   All correct early markings with the early style 2-line barrel address, model and patent dates on the upper tang, and early style hammer checkering with the dipped border.  See photos.  The BBHC museum which houses the original Winchester and Marlin records had this to say about it:

Overall condition grades to NRA Antique Fine+ with 65% original blue on the frame with some handling wear along the upper sides from handling.   Loading port and extractor show 95% bright fire blue.   Hammer and lever still show some bright case colors.   Buttplate even shows some light faded colors which is unusually good on a Winchester as they tended to wear off quickly.   Good screws throughout.   Barrel and magazine tube have 95% original blue.   Wood is in Fine+ and in untouched condition with only a few marks.  The wood is walnut and still shows most of the original light orange-red hued varnish.  No cracks, chips, or repairs and very nice wood to metal fit.   Mechanically, the action is perfect and the bore is just stone MINT!   There may be a few equals out there...but you simply won't see a better bore in a Model 1892!   A nice example of an early Model 1892 rifle in the most desirable configuration and caliber.   These seldom show up on the market any more.
