This is good solid example of a Model 1886 Deluxe rifle in Caliber 40-82 with a special order 28" octagon barrel, pistol grip stock, and checkered deluxe wood. Standard full magazine and crescent rifle buttplate. Antique serial number is in the 28,000 range and was made circa 1889. Original rear sight has been coupled with a folding Lyman rear tang and front sight with ivory bead.
Overall condition grades to NRA Antique Very Good with the metal subsided to a smooth brown patina that has faded case colors in the corners and low spots of the frame as well as the loading port. The front end shows 30% original faded blue in the protected areas of the barrel and mag tube. The bolt fared slightly better with what we'd describe as 60% age darkened blue remaining. Excellent markings, nice edges, and fine screws throughout. The deluxe burl walnut stocks are in very good condition with some wear to the forearm checkering from carry use but still quite good overall. The burl looks to be either 2x or 3x...quite good showing lots of character and patina. Good working action with a Fine bore. A nice example of a real Model 1886 Deluxe with all the bells and whistles of those high condition examples going for 15-25K including a desirable extra-length octagon barrel.
