Winchester 1873 3rd Model Saddle Ring Carbine in caliber .44 WCF a.k.a. 44-40. This one has a sharp untouched look to it, nice fitting wood, a great ring shadow (oval wear pattern) surrounded by original blue, and great patina with lots of original blue in protected areas. It's 100% original and shows a nice balance of honest wear and condition that is so hard to find in a carbine. Standard 20" round barrel, full magazine, semi-crescent buttplate with trap, and saddle ring. Carbine ladder sight is graduated 2-9 hundred yards with proper "1873" stamped at the top. Perfect markings but filled with many years of dried oil and grease. Serial number is in the 263,000 range. We contacted the Buffalo Bill Historical Center for a record check and this one entered the warehouse as a .44 caliber carbine on May 1, 1888 and shipped out on June 7, 1888 to order number 7,175. Just turned 130 years old. Nice action and a very good bore with no rings or bulges. The 1873 Carbine was highly prized on the American frontier as a compact utility gun that could deliver great firepower when called upon. They were a favorite of the Texas Rangers, cowboys, outlaws, Native Americans, and saw use all over the world. If you're looking for a nice carbine that has that Old West character and charm but shows a little condition and isn't worn out, this one has the best of both worlds.
