Winchester 1873 Rifle in 44 WCF w/ Octagon Barrel

This is a Winchester 1873 3rd Model Rifle with a standard 24" octagon barrel, full magazine, and crescent rifle buttplate w/ sliding trapdoor for storing a set of cleaning rods. Antique pre-1898 serial number is in the 238,000 range and was manufactured in 1887. Complete with original sights and sliding dust cover. Overall Condition is NRA Antique Very Good with the metal turned to a smooth silver-gray with traces of blue in protected areas and edges of the loading port. Nice clear markings throughout including the "44 CAL" on the brass loading block. Good screws throughout. Original sights include a standard Winchester semi-buckhorn rear sight. Front sight is the original base with what appears to be part of a silver coin in place of the original German silver blade. Nice mechanics with original blue still visible on the top of the bolt and over most of the firing pin indicative of only modest usage. Bore is Excellent...bright and shiny with no pitting. Very Good wood is solid and exhibits perfect wood-to-metal fit. Shows some light saddle and scabbard wear with some scattered light marks on the stock...where the end of the rifle butt would have protruded from the scabbard. This rifle has a great look to it with and should display nicely.
