This 1873 came recently from North Georgia and is in pretty nice shape. Caliber 32 WCF, its a standard sporting rifle with 24" round barrel, full magazine, and crescent buttplate. Serial Number is in the 391,000 range which dates it to 1891. This one is completely original, 100%, down to the smallest screw. Overall, it grades from NRA Antique Very Good Plus with a considerable amount of fading blue speckled throughout the frame. You can still see some mottled case colors on the hammer that is turning over to a dark patina. Barrel and mag tube are mostly an age darkened blue that is slowly turning over to brown patina. Nice wood is solid with no chips, cracks or repairs, and good wood to metal fit with the wood still swelling up slightly over the metal in most places just like it did when it left the factory over 110 years ago. Action works nicely and the bore is surprisingly good, still bright with nice rifling, and just a few pits...far better than your avg. 32-20 bore. Original sights include the standard Winchester semi-buckhorn rear sight and front sight with the German silver blade w/no set screw...correct for 1891. Nice markings and sharp edges throughout. For those of you who can't stand loose dust covers, this one is really tight with no side-to-side looseness. Quite a nice little rifle for this price range, especially for one with a far bit of original blue remaining.
