A good solid example of the .54 Caliber Starr Percussion Carbine manufactered from 1862-65 in Yonkers, New York.  Complete with correct 21" round barrel, saddle ring, original sights, brass barrel band and buttplate.  These were issued to Union Cavalry Regiments throughout the Western theatre during the Civil War.  See photo of the 9th Pennsylvania Cavarly posing with their Starr Carbines atop Lookout Mountain (Circa Late 1863). 

This partcular carbine is in NRA Antique Good+ condition with the metal mostly turned to a light smooth patina.  There are silvery remains of faded case colors in protected areas of the frame.  Good markings throughout.  Barrel and lockplate both read "STARR ARMS (ARMES on lock) YONKERS NY".   Left side of barrel has Gov't inspector's initials "H.G.S." Top of tang just behind the breach block is marked "STARR'S PATENT SEPT. 14TH 1858."  Screws are in Fine condition overall.  Bore has some scattered pitting but is still quite bright with good strong rifling throughout.  No rings or bulges...Good+ to VG overall.  Action works.  Brass furniture has aged to a nice uncleaned mellow patina.  Walnut stocks are in Good+ condition showing normal Civil War era cavalry usage with some nicks, scratches, and dings.  Wood to metal fit is tight with wood fitting perfectly and evenly to all metal surfaces.  There was a small chip at the base of the buttplate when we found this carbine that we had mended by a professional....very well done and almost invisible.  Otherwise, the wood is completely solid and in untouched condition.  A very good example of a Civil War issue Starr Percussion Carbine.
