This is a nice example of the Model 1877 Trapdoor Saddle Ring Carbine.  Its got a great look to it...used but not abused and still has original finish.  Best of all,it survived with its original stock cartouche....something we rarely find on trapdoor carbines!  Caliber 45-70 with 22" round barrel, saddle bar with ring, and original early style ladder sight correctly marked with the letter "C" for "Carbine".    Serial number is in the 177,000 range.  Top of the buttplate is marked "US" with a small letter "G" stamped just in front on the wood.

Overall condition is NRA Antique Fine with most of the original case colors still present on the breech and tang that are a bit light but all there.  The case color on the underside of the block inside the breech are stunning!  The lockplate, hammer, triggerguard and front band still retain 60% light original blue while the barrel and buttplate show  20-25% original blue that are strong in the more sheltered areas.  Original sights..both front and rear.  Rear sight still has 50% original blue with its original Springfield factory non-slotted screws indicating this sight has never been replaced.  Stock is in Fine condition with 85-90% of its original oil finish intact showing only minor wear and light handling marks typical of military use.  This is exceptionally nice wood for a carbine and it is "ORIGINAL" and not from a cut-down rifle stock.  The cartouche is in VG+ to Fine condition and dated 1881. Most carbines I see no longer have cartouches given the heavy wear they saw with Cavalry units throughout the American West.  This gun has seen surprisingly little usage with sharp edges and corners throughout and the cartouche is unquestionably original to this gun.  Action is perfect and the Bore is in MINT condition!  This is one of the best Trapdoor carbines we've ever had on our site.  You will not be disappointed with this one!
