This is a S&W No. 1, 3rd issue pocket revolver in Caliber .22 short. Its the third and final version of S&W's No. 1 Pocket....the company's first revolver introduced in 1857. The third model was built from 1868-1881 and while the same mechanically, it uses a more stream-lined exterior with a round barrel, fluted cylinder, and rounded birdshead grip. Standard blued finish with case colored hammer, and rosewood grips.
Overall condition grades to NRA Antique Fine++ with 90% original blue on the frame. Barrel has flaked to 25% blue and cylinder retains about 50% blue...typical of most S&W's where the heat from firing caused the barrel and cylinder to flake. Hammer has nearly all its bright original case colors intact. Fine++ rosewood grips with 80% original piano varnish and some minor handling wear. Perfect wood to metal fit with no chips, cracks, or repairs. Bore needs a good cleaning...has strong rifling but some patches of rust. Nice working action. Barrel to frame lockup has a bit of wobble. Excellent markings and edges throughout.
