This is a very nice Smith and Wesson .32 Caliber 1 1/2 Single Action Pocket Revolver with original wooden box. Its our understanding that of the roughly 90K+ 1 1/2's build from 1878-1892, there were only about 500 were shipped from the dealer in these wooden cases. Comes with a 1980's era S & W factory letter by Roy Jinks along with an original advertisement for the 1 1/2 SA. Serial number is in the 28,000 range.
Overall condition of the gun is NRA Antique Excellent with 98% original nickel. Nickel shows a little bit of loss near on the bottom of the barrel near the muzzle and under the left side of the rib. A little scratch at the back of the cylinder between cylinder stops. All in all, this is about as nice of a nickel Smith as we can find 100+ years later. Hammer has those nice subdued S&W case colors and original blue on the latch, trigger, and springs. Barrel has patent dates from Jan. 1865 through Dec. 1877. Hard rubber grips have the early type S&W monogram...strong checkering, with no chips, cracks, or repairs. Action works perfectly. The bore is MINT! Barrel also latches tightly to the frame with Zero play or wiggle. This was fired very little...probably only on one or two occasions judging from the strong finish on the face of the cylinder.
The wooden case is in Good to Very Good condition...very solid wood with no cracks or repairs. The brass hinges are a little loose and could stand to be tightened. Lock on front of the case appears to be no longer working...we have no key for it. The lining in the case is red...with some chafe wear but good overall. Original dark blue Smith and Wesson directions for the care and operation of this revolver are located inside the upper lid. Case comes with a correct-looking oil bottle that is probably contemporary to this gun.
All in all, an exceptional collector's grade S&W in its seldom-seen original wooden S&W case!
