This is a S&W 32 Caliber Pocket Double Action revolver that untouched and right out of the attic. Its a very early 4th Model (1883-1909/ SN#'s 43406-282999) in the 48,000 range. The barrel has patent dates up to 1882 and without the later 1889 date present. This one was probably produced in 1883. Standard 3 1/2 barrel, 5 shot cylinder, nickel finish, and hard rubber checkered grips with the S&W monogram at the top.
Overall condition is NRA Antique Excellent with 85% original nickel that a nice subdued lustre from many years of being left alone. A few strokes with a polishing cloth will brighten it back up but many collectors like this look so we're leaving it alone. Excellent screws and pins throughout...this gun has never been taken apart. All matching numbers on barrel/latch/cylinder/and Frame. I'm sure the grips are numbered to the gun as well but they've never been disturbed so I'm going to leave them alone. Nickel doesn't show much wear but does have some flaking and these areas are now starting to mix with patina. Hammer and trigger still show nice case colors. The trigger guard and barrel latch still retain most of their original blued finish...especially the TG which is quite bright (see photos). Grips are in excellent condition....a light brown color with excellent checkering and no chips, cracks, or repairs. Nice mechanics and works well in both single and double action modes. Cylinder indexes properly. Ejectors work. Could use a drop or two of oil. Bore has a little dust but will clean to Excellent condition. Barrel latches to frame tight with no play or wiggle. A very nice example of an early S&W Pocket DA.
