This is a 3rd Model S&W .38 Double Action pocket revolver with the scarcer blued finish, and it sports one of the less commonly seen 5" barrels. The 3rd Model DA was manufactured from 1884-1895 in the 119,000-322,000 serial range. Antique serial number is in the 304,000 range with early set of patent dates from 1865 to 1882. Has the long cylinder flutes with 5-shot cylinder and checkered hard rubber grips. Overall condition grades to NRA Antique Excellent with 95% original blue overall. Strong case colors are evident on the hammer and trigger. Front sight and ejector star retain 80-90% original nickel plating...which came standard and are correct for all blued pocket DA's. Excellent hard rubber grips have sharp checkering with no chips, cracks, or repairs. All matching numbers which includes the barrel, latch, frame, and cylinder. Nice example of an 1880's vintage S&W DA with desirable blued finish and unique barrel length.
