Smith and Wesson Second Model .38 Double Action Pocket Revolver

This is an early S&W DA Pocket Revolver that was made in 1884. It's a second model in the 109,000 range with the half flutes and double stop notches on the cylinder. Barrel length is the standard 3-1/4" with standard nickel plated finish. The serial numbers are all matching which includes the frame, barrel, cylinder, and latch. Barrel address has correct Smith and Wesson name and address with numerous patent dates that run from 1865 to 1880. Checkered hard rubber grips have the S&W monogram. Overall condition grades to NRA Antique Very Good with most of the original nickel remaining on the frame while the nickel has mostly flaked completely off of the barrel and cylinder resulting in a smooth light gray pateina. Nice screws and pins, edges are still fairly sharp, and markings are perfect. Grips are in Very Good Condition and fit the frame nicely. Nice mechanics with tight barrel to frame lockup. Cylinder has no lateral play...between the recoil shield and the forcing cone of the barrel...which is good as the metal hasn't stretched from being fired with smokeless powder unlike so many. Ejector works. Action works in both Single and Double Action modes. Cylinder indexes to full battery properly and locks on the stop notches. Again, after 130+ years, many do not. Bore is a little frosty but Good+ overall with Good rifling. Nice solid example of an early Smith and Wesson Double Action with honest wear and no abuse.
