Here is an old S&W that you don't come across every day! It's an early Single Action .32 cal Pocket Revolver with a three-digit serial number that's still in its original box. Serial number is in the 9XX range with all matching numbers throughout. Probably shipped from S&W around 1878. It has the early style hard rubber grips without the S&W monogram. Barrel address has patent dates up to 1871 and as we understand, was one of the first guns to have the 1875 and 1877 patents on the top strap. The box is also unique in that it is hand-stamped inside the lid "PATENT REBOUNDING LOCK" in red ink. There is also no end label on the outside of the box. This is also correct for an early production Single Action Pocket.
Overall condition is in NRA Antique Fine+ to Excellent condition. Metal retains 97% original nickel plating with some superficial scratches and nicks. Grips are in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, or repairs...and sharp checkering. 60% case colors on hammer. Action is in good order but could easily be improved to excellent with a little attention. Bore is VG overall...bright and shiny except for a couple spots of pitting...otherwise, it's quite nice. Box is in Good+ to VG shape with solid corners, no rips, tears, or pieces missing. Interior still has all of its original partitions intact. Directions inside the lid are 100% legible and in very good condition. The red exterior shows some foxing and minor discoloration but is in remarkably nice shape for a 130-year-old cardboard box. Just a nice solid little S&W with its original factory box.
