This is a 3rd Model S&W Double Action Revolver in .32 caliber with nickel finish, 3" barrel, and mother of pearl grips. There is an inscription on the handle that reads "Lilian Dec. 25, 1884." Santa Claus sure must've known what every proper Victorian-era lady wanted for Christmas and it appears that "Lilian" was on his "nice" list back in 1884. We'd like to think that "Lilian"...must have been the famous actress Lillian Russell...if it wasn't for that extra "L" in her name...but engravers made mistakes too. All wishful thinking aside, it's not very often that we find 19th century or even modern era guns inscribed to women.
Overall condition is NRA Antique Fine. The metal retains approximately 80% original nickel with an area of the right side of the frame that is frosty with some light roughness...as the something was spilled on the nickel causing it to flake off. Otherwise, the gun is excellent. Trigger guard shows 70% original blue. Pearl grips are solid with no breaks...aside from a missing thin little flat fleck or sliver of pearl off the top edge of the right grip, the grips are flawless. Nice bore and mechanics. All matching numbers with an interesting serial number that has all almost all "7"s. An interesting S&W pocket revolver.
