This is a fantastic little S&W Double Action Revolver in .32 caliber that is still in its original factory box. This one is a 4th type which was made from 1883-1909. Serials under approx. 209,000 are pre-1898 antiques. This one is in the 114,000 range and has patent dates up to 1882 but not 1889 so most likely produced in the late 1880's. Matching numbers. Standard revolver with nickel finish, checkered hard rubber grips, and 3-1/2" barrel. This gun shows very little use, if any. Of the five chambers on the cylinder, only one appears to have ever been fired and that may have been the test-firing done at the factory.
Overall Condition grades to Excellent Plus with 98% original nickel plating on frame, barrel, and cylinder. Trigger guard and latch retain 95% original blue with a few brown freckles from age but virtually zero wear. Case colors on trigger and hammer are 98%. Original hard rubber grips are Mint. Excellent screws and pins throughout. Bore is Excellent, bright and shiny with sharp lands and grooves with a few light pin pricks from storage. The box is in Very Good Condition showing only minor edge wear with solid corners and a perfect label and set of instruction inside the lid. The serial number is hand-scribed (it is faint but legible) on the bottom of the box and matches the serial number of the gun. Nice example of an early S&W DA still in its original box!
