This is a factory engraved Remington New Model Police Conversion Revolver in caliber .38 Rimfire. Five-shot cylinder with 4-1/2" cctagon barrel. This one has the less common blued finish rather than nickel plating. Factory engraving is a simple pattern with coverage that includes both sides of the frame, the upper lug area, top strap, and back strap. Barrel address reads:

Cylinder retains 40% thinning original blue and 25% on loading lever. Frame has turned to a gray patina with sharp edges and excellent engraving. Barrel and trigger show traces of original blue. The hammer has 70% case colors present that are dulling. Brass trigger guard has aged nicely with a pleasing patina. The grips appear to be rosewood and are in Very Good condition overall retaining 50% thinning original varnish. The action is in good working order. Bore is Fair with rifling present with some moderate pitting scattered throughout. No rings or bulges. All in all, a good example of an early engraved Remington revolver.
