This Model 1892 Winchester sporting rifle is one of a handful ordered with a special case color hardened receiver.  This rifle is in attic condition.  Its finished just like its old brother, the Model 1886.  In 25 years of collecting, I've seen just one other 1892 with this feature.  It has an antique serial number in the 30,000 range made in 1893. Standard 24" octagon barrel in Caliber 38 WCF, full magazine, and crescent rifle buttplate.  Comes with its original Lyman tang sight, front sight, and standard semi-buckhorn Winchester rear sight.  The sight ears have been trimmed back a little for better visibility when using the tang sight. 

Overall condition grades to NRA Antique Very Good+ to Fine.  Receiver retains 50% case finish that's faded out to a nickel silver coloration....similar to the look you find on many antique Model 1886's.  Frame shows some colors in protected areas...around the trigger, lower tang, and back of frame around the hammer and hammer screw.  Forend cap is also case colored and shows some faded mottled colors...balance is mostly faded to silver.  Loading port still shows good traces of fire blue.  We removed the tang sight, we took a before photo of the upper tang with many decades worth of  dirt and dried grease. Wiping it down with a little oil, we took an additional photo revealing some flashes of case colors.  Barrel has 30% original blue and magazine tube shows 50% blue.  Side of barrel has one of the original owners name inscribed  neatly on the right side of barrel (see photos). Very good wood with nice wood to metal fit.  Forearm shows a little bit of extra figure.  Nice mechanics and great bore.  A very rare Winchester!
