This is a nice example of a New Model No. 3 Remington Smoot revolver in Caliber .38 rimfire.  Its in extraordinary shape for being 125 years old and still appears to be unfired.  Its not quite mint but right up there with some of the better ones we've seen.  Features and specs include a 3.75" octagon barrel with top rib, five shot fluted cylinder, birdshead butt, with hard rubber checkered grips.   Like almost all Smoot revolvers, it has a nickel finish accented by fire blued screws.  The barrel rib is marked "E. REMINGTON & SONS. ILION. N.Y. PAT. W.S. SMOOT. OCT. 21. 1873." 

Overall condition grades to NRA Antique Excellent+ with 98.5% bright original finish on the barrel and frame with just a few tiny specks of nickel loss.  The cylinder shows 95%+ nickel with some blistering on the outside of one chamber...otherwise, it would be the same as the barrel and frame.  The screws and pins still show most of their original vibrant and very fragiel fire blued finish.  Grips are perfect with no chips, cracks, or repairs.  Perfect checkering.  The bore and chambers are all perfect and appear to have never been fired.  The lands and grooves are perfect.   Furthermore, there are no signs of the typical corrosion that plagues 19th century black powder weapons with nickel finish around the muzzle, face of cylinder and barrel breech.  In fact, even the tip of the firing pin appears to have its nickel finish intact.  A very strong example of a Remington Smoot Revolver.
