This is a nice 2nd Model Maynard Carbine manufactured by the Massachusetts Arms Company of Chicopee Falls, Mass. Produced from 1863-65, these were issued to Union cavalry regiments throughout the Union army during the Civil War. Standard .50 caliber percussion, 20" barrel, saddle ring, and leaf rear sight. The stock has two crisp original US military cartouches on the left side (see photo) with various US gov't sub-inspector initials on the various parts.
Overall Condition grades to NRA Antique Excellent with 95% original barrel blue. The receiver shows 50% strong case colors with the balance faded to a mousy silver. The stock is in Excellent shape with no chips, cracks, or repairs. Fire blue remains on several of the screws. The mechanics are perfect...just like new and a MINT bore. This Maynard has been nicely maintained and well-cared for. Nice example!
