Manhattan .36 Caliber Navy Revolver w/ Low SN#

This is a Type V Manhattan Navy Type Revolver in .36 caliber. Features include a six-shot cylinder with twelve stop notches and four-inch octagon barrel. Type V's had their own dedicated serial range from 1-9,000 and were the last percussion revolvers produced by the Newark, NJ based company from 1867-68. This one has a low two-digit serial number makes this one of the first Type V's produced circa mid-1867. Manhattan was one of Colt's biggest competitors during the Civil War with this .36 caliber falling neatly between the .31 Colt Model 1849 Pocket and the .36 Colt 1851 Navy. Colt didn't have a .36 caliber pocket model in its product line to compete with the Manhattan until 1861-2 when it introduced the .36 caliber Pocket Navy and Police Models.

Condition: 100% Matching numbers on barrel, frame, wedge, loading lever, trigger guard, backstrap, arbor pin. The serial number on the cylinder also matches but was placed on next to the percussion nipples on the back of the cylinder and are there but require careful study to read. Cylinder has 1859 patent date and barrel has the 1864 patent date...correct for Type IV and V revolvers. Overall Condition grades to NRA Antique Very Good with metal turned mostly to gray patina with traces of original blue in protected areas on the barrel. Frame shows traces of silvered out case colors. Brass backstrap retains 20% original silver plating while the trigger guard still has a good 70% silver remaining. Good screws and markings. Walnut grips are in Very Good condition with no chips, cracks, or repairs, and 20% original varnish remaining. Cylinder shows 50% of its rolled engraving with vignettes around five different panel scenes. Nice action in good working order. Wedge is tight with no barrel play. Good bore with its original five-groove rifling intact. Very solid example of a Manhattan Percussion Revolver.
