This F&W "Muff Pistol" is one of the smallest Deringers made in America. Only 2,000 were built from 1871-1890. Caliber .22 Rimfire with a part-hexagonal barrel...note the nice knurling where barrel transitions to round. Top of barrel is marked "FOREHAND & WADSWORTH WORCESTER MASS." Essentially, an extension of the Ethan Allen Company....Sullivan Forehand and Henry Wadsworth both married daughters of Ethan Allen and took over the business following his death in 1871. The firm was eventually bought by Hopkins and Allen in 1902. Overall condition grades to NRA Antique Excellent with 97% original nickel plating. Case colors or tempered Hammer and trigger have turned to grey. Good serviceable screws and pins. Rosewood grips are in Good+ condition...solid and numbered to gun. Very good mechanics and barrel still locks up tightly to frame. Bore is mostly frosty with no signs of any major pitting. A very solid example of tiny F&W Derringer.
