This is an exceptionally nice S&W No. 2 Army Revolver in .32 Rimfire with a good low 4 digit Civil War era serial number in the 8,000 range...circa 1861/62.  These were early S&W tip-ups were quite popular with soldiers during the Civil War who purchased them as personal carry weapons.  No wonder, in addition to its high quality, this weapon's newly designed self-contained copper .32 rimfire cartridges would have made this revolver reliable in types of weather conditions.  This one has a standard 6" octagon barrel with 6 shot cylinder, blued finish, and rosewood grips.  Barrel address reads "SMITH. & WESSON. SPRINGFIELD. MASS.".  Cylinder is clearly marked "PATENTED APRIL 3. 1855. JULY 5. 1859. & DEC 18. 1860."

Overall condition is NRA Antique Excellent with the metal retaining 90% bright shiny original blue overall with the balance mostly turned brown from flaking and light oxidation.  The finish of this S&W has not suffered very much from wear.  Even the grip straps have much of their original blue remaining.  Hammer has 80-85% of its original case colors that are toned a bit from age.  Even the cartridge ejector shows much of its faded grey case colors.  Grips are excellent overall with 98% strong original piano varnish remaining over the rosewood panels. Perfect wood to metal fit.  No chips, cracks, or repairs. Excellent markings and edges.  Fine screws overall.  Action works perfectly. Bore is very close to Mint condition...bright and shiny with perfect rifling.  One of the nicest early production No. 2 Army's we've offered on the website.
