This is a nice early US Military marked Colt First Model Dragoon Revolver. 7 1/2 inch part octagon barrel, early lever catch, .44 Caliber and 6 shot cylinder with early round cylinder stops. Made in 1849. Serial number is in the 7600 range with all matching numbers except the wedge which is unmarked. Military cartouches are still visible on both sides of the grips Walnut grips....not very often we find Dragoons with their original cartouches intact! "US" is stamped below the "Colt's Patent" marking on the left side of the frame. Military inspector letters are located on many many parts of this gun. Nice barrel address reads "ADDRESS SAML COLT NEW YORK CITY". Overall condition is NRA Antique Good+ to VG with a light grey brown patina overall with sharp edges and markings. The cylinder retains traces of original cylinder scene. Nice grips with good wood to metal fit. Only flaws I can find on this gun are 2 minor chips at the bottom front corners of the grips...which are almost standard on early Percussion Colt Revolvers and 1 tiny chip in the metal on the bottom of the barrel where the frame guide pins line up. All in all, a very nice example of a rare and early Martially marked Dragoon Revolver!
