This is one of the nicest Colt Lightning Revolvers we've come across in several years at Antque Arms, Inc. Best of all, it's an early gun with the etched panel denoting the caliber instead of the later type roll die. Great Configuration in desirable .41 Long Colt with 6" barrel. Standard hard rubber grips, nickel finish with fire blued screws, trigger, and hammer. Antique Serial number is in the 44,000 range which dates this Colt to the year 1883. This gun has been kept so well within a stable environment that it's hard to believe its over 125 years old...yet it is.
Overall condition grades to NRA Antique Excellent Plus. Barrel, frame, ejector, straps, grade to about 98% original nickel showing very little wear. Cylinder has a little bit of flaking the front in places with 90% nickel. Etched panel is as good as they come with no blemishes or flaking and reads "COLT D.A. 41". Trigger guard is also marked "41 CAL" on left side. The original fire blue on the screws, trigger, etc. are not perfect but exceptionally nice! This is a very fragile finish and wore off quickly. It's very rare that we find Colts of this vintage with most of their fire blued appointments. The sides of the hammer still show almost the original bright polish with 98% vivid fire blue on the back...even in front of the hammer knurling, it's strong. The grips are numbered to the gun and in EXC+ with no chips, cracks, or repairs. Nice mechanics and a mint bore. A .41 Lightning or "Thunderer" as they are sometimes called in this configuration would be difficult to improve upon and would not look out of place in a factory box or wooden case.
