This is a nice clean example of a Colt 3rd Model Dragoon revolver with 4 screw frame cut for the Colt shoulder stock and 2 leaf rear sight. This is one of the Civilian models and for a Dragoon, its well above average. Made in the year 1858, serial number is in the 17000 range with all matching numbers throughout. Metal is mostly silvery grey with good profiles, very good sharp edges, and nice markings...metal may have been cleaned long ago but it has tons of eye appeal and photographed quite nicely. 6 shot cylinder has a significant amount of faint scene remaining...although the images are a bit more like wraith-like shadows of horses with their riders and not sharp.....nonetheless, as hard as these guns were used, its still exceptional to find a dragoon with any scene left. The back of the cylinder has all 6 of its safety pins intact. Action works nicely. Grips are in fine condition with no chips, cracks, or repairs with tight wood to metal fit that isn't undersized. All in all, this is just a nice sharp example of a Dragoon in the desirable shoulder stock configuration. Many Dragoons saw hard use during the Civil War on both sides.
