Colt Bullet Mold, Early Brass Variation for Model 1849 Pocket Revolver

This is an original early Colt Bullet Mold with the scarce brass body and handles. As early Colt Bullet Molds don't have the sliding iron sprue cutter, the COLT'S PATENT was stamped directly across the top brass halves of the mold below the hinge. According to my friend Robin Rapley's book on Colt Accoutrements 1834-1911, this .31 caliber mold is correct for an early Model 1849 Pocket Revolver. Robin listed this one as type M#17 on page 124 of his book. Just as he mentions in the book, there is a small letter "P" stamped on the top of the right handle.

Overall, this mold condition is Very Good with some light dings and scratches, but fairly smooth overall with a nice mellow patina over the brass. Cavities are in Very Good Condition and are for the spherical and belted conical ball. A very unique Colt Revolver accessory that would be perfect for an early 1850's production Model 1849 Pocket "Gold Rush Era" Revolver.
