A scarce example of a Model 1848 Colt Baby Dragoon. 5" octagon barrel in .31 Caliber w/5 shot cylinder. Production lasted only 4 years from 1847-1850 with a production of around 15,000 units before Colt replaced this model in 1850 with what today we call the Model 1849 Pocket Revolver. These early pockets dragoons shared several DNA from its.early 44 Caliber Walker and Dragoon brothers with its distincitive squared trigger guard and oval cylinder stops. The naked barrel without a loading lever was also derived from the early Colt Paterson revolvers. This particular example is in the 11,400 range with all matching numbers except the wedge which has a different number.
