This is a fantastic example of an early Colt Model New Army Double Action Revolver in .38 Colt with some scarce special order features rarely found on this model. For starters, it has diamond patterned checkered walnut grips...rarely seen as Commercial models came standard with hard rubber grips and military versions were plain walnut. It also has a checkered trigger face and the tip of the ejector rod is also knurled. The front sight is special order as well with a beaded contour. Standard 6" round barrel.
Overall condition grades to NRA Antique Excellent with 95% original barrel blue, 98% original cylinder blue, 97% original frame blue, with only the straps showing significant wear with about 35% original blue remaining. The knurled trigger still shows 85% bright fire blue and 80% on the back of the hammer. Screws still have most of their original fire blue. Sides of hammer still retains nearly all of its bright polish. Grips are in excellent plus condition showing only a few light hand marks. Checkering is sharp. No chips, cracks, or repairs. 95% original varnish in the diamonds and areas bordering the checkering. Grip screw still has its original nickel plating intact. Excellent mechanics with a pristine bore. Just a fantastic Colt with features rarely found on this model. Antique serial number is in the 98,000 range. Made in 1898.
