This is a beautiful example of a Spanish-American War US Army Colt Model 1894 Double Action Revolver. Caliber .38 Colt with 6" barrel, blued finish, and walnut grips. It escaped the 1901 upgrades as well as the WW1-era rebuild program by Remington Arms. It has almost all of its original finish and has NEVER been altered or refinished. It is super-clean and very crisp right down to its original inspector cartouches on the grips. The antique serial number is in the 102,000 range which dates its production to the year 1898. The left grip even has an "1898" date stamped just above the inspector cartouche. All matching numbers with various "RAC" (U.S. Inspector Ronaldo A. Carr) inspector stamps including the rear of cylinder, frame, and grips.
Overall Condition grades to NRA Antique Excellent with 95% original blue on the frame, 92% on the cylinder, and 93% on the barrel. The grip straps show some handling wear with 70% remaining on the front strap, 50% on the backstrap, and 90% on the bottomstrap. Excellent fire blue on the trigger screws, and rear of the hammer which still retains its original bright polish on the profiles. Original walnut grips are excellent with no chips, cracks, or repairs. Excellent wood to metal fit and Excellent inspector cartouches. Action is excellent. Bore is bright with three or four pits....Fine Overall. Just a great gun and the nicest US Army Colt Model 1894 we've had in several years.
