Colt 1877 Thunderer Revolver .41 w/ Orig. Holster and Loading Tool |
This is a good untouched example of a Colt Lightning Revolver in .41 caliber, also known as the "Thunderer". It has a great look to it with lots of character. Antique serial number is in the 79,000 range and was built in 1890. It comes with its original double loop leather holster as well as an original Ideal Combination Reloading Tool & Bullet Mold. Standard 4-1/2" barrel w/ ejector, nickel finish, and checkered hard rubber grips. Nice markings include "COLT. D.A. 41" marking on the left side of the barrel. Top of barrel clearly marked: COLT'S PT. F.A. MFG Co Left side of frame has rampant Colt inside a circle along with three-line (1871, '72, and '75) patent dates. Numbers are all matching. Overall Condition grades to NRA Antique Fine with 90% original nickel plating on barrel and ejector housing. Frame shows 60% original nickel, 70% on cylinder, 70% trigger guard, and 25% on the backstrap. The balance of the metal has turned to a smooth gray to brown patina. Traces of original nitre blue remain on screws in protected areas as well as the rear face of the hammer. Ejector rod housing still retains its original bronze return spring. Action is in good working order in BOTH double and single action modes. Bore is fairly decent...good overall. Checkered hard rubber grips are in very good condition with good checkering that is worn down a bit on the high spots. No chips, cracks, or repairs. Original holster is in good condition and is lightly tooled with floral designs along the borders. All of the original stitching appears to be intact and both loops are solid. This is not a put together rig...this Colt has been kept in this holster its whole life. I have put the perfect Ideal tool with this rig. Colt used to advertise these Ideal tools on the inner lids of their boxes. It is clearly marked on the upper handle "41 - C.D.A" which stands for .41 Colt Double Action...so it was built specifically for the Colt Model 1877 in .41 caliber. Retains 35% of its original nickel finish, has good markings, and the bullet mold is in very good shape...not rusted out. Sorry, no decapper...these are missing 99% of the time. These .41 Ideals with Colt markings are tough to find and its condition is a perfect match for this Thunderer. All it needs are a few old cartridges and old leather cartridge belt and this will make for one incredible display. Item# 1700 SOLD |
