This Colt Model 1877 has a great look to it...super clean lines with most of its original nickel plating intact and almost zero patina. The mechanics are equally as impressive as is the bore. Its also in a great configuration...in desirable .41 Colt with a desirable 6" barrel. Pre-1898 antique serial number is in the 60,000 range which dates it to the year 1887. All matching numbers on frame, trigger guard, backstrap, and cylinder. One thing collectors like so much about Colts made during the 1870's and 1880's is the beautiful acid-etched oval panels on the barrels. This one doesn't disappoint, it has a fantastic etched panel that clearly reads "COLT D.A. 41". See photos.
Overall Condition grades to the bottom rung of NRA Antique Excellent. The frame retains 80% original nickel plating, 85% cylinder, 90% barrel, 95% ejector housing, and 80% on the trigger guard and backstrap. On the rear edge of the cylinder, when we saw the magnified jpeg photos, I notice there are four small nicks...probably pry marks where someone tried to remove the cylinder...as this is a very tight gun. Excellent markings throughout including a nearly flawless etched panel on left side of barrel which clearly reads "COLT D.A. 41". Screws are Fine Overall...mostly worn silver with a few in protected areas showing their original fire blue (mainly holding the gripstraps). The hammer shows 60% original fire blue on the rear face with the polished profiles faded to gray. The trigger retains 35% fire blue on its profiles. Checkered hard rubber grips are a nice medium brown color. Excellent Condition with sharp checkering. No chips, cracks, or repairs. Very Nice mechanics that work properly in single and double action modes. Bore is Excellent as well. Nice example of a Colt Thunderer that would pair nicely with a Single Action or a New Line Pocket Revolver.
