This is a good solid example of a Martially-marked Colt 1860 Army revolver made at the height of the Civil War in 1863.  These were quite popular with Union Officers and Cavalry units. More than a few saw use in the hands of Confederate soldiers as well. Standard .44 Caliber percussion with 6 shot rebated cylinder, 8" barrel.  Serial number is in the 94,000 range with matching numbers except for the wedge which is quite common. The wedge is still an original, not a repro, just non-matching. US Sub-inspector initials can be seen in several places such as the barrel, cylinder, and straps.  The walnut grips still retain both of their original cartouches at the bottom of each side. 

Overall condition is NRA Antique Good+ to Very Good with the metal worn mostly to a soft light grey patina.  Very Good markings and nice edges throughout.  Cylinder scene is Very Good with 70-75% of the original roll-engraved Naval Engagement scene visible.  Barrel address reads, "-ADDRESS COL. SAML COLT NEW-YORK U.S. AMERICA-".  Left side of frame stamped "COLT'S PATENT".  Very good screws overall.  Action functions exceptionally nice with all 4 hammer clicks and proper cylinder rotation.  Barrel to frame junction is good and tight with just the very slightest hint of play.  The back of the cylinder is also quite good with 2 safety pins perfect and intact, 1 fair, 2 present but partially mashed, and 1 completely mashed.  Not too bad for a war-time production gun that's soon to be 145 years old.  Grips are in very good condition with no chips, cracks, or repairs, and exhibit overall sound wood to metal fit.  This is a very pleasing example of a Civil War Colt that's well above average.
