Colt 1849 Pocket Revolver --Mfd in 1855--

This is an early style Colt Model 1849 Pocket Revolver with the small trigger guard. Antique pre-1898 serial number is in the 108,000 range. Made in 1855. 100% All matching numbers throughout including the wedge, arbor pin, and grips. Standard 4" octagon barrel with five-shot cylinder in .31 caliber. Barrel has the early style two-line New York address. The 1849's were quite popular during the California Gold Rush and with both Union and Confederate soldiers during the Civil War who purchased them as personal carry/backup weapons.

Overall condition NRA Antique Fine Plus. Barrel retains 65% original blue. The trigger guard and back strap have a strong 95% original silver plating over the brass...quite impressive for a weapon that's over 150 years old. Frame shows 25% very light original case colors mostly on left side of frame and in protected areas. These earlier Model 49's from the 1850's tended to have more subtle case colors than found on later production guns of the 1860's and early 70's. Loading lever shows 40% original case colors. The cylinder has turned to gray w/ traces of blue and shows a strong 98% of its rolled engraved scene depicting a stagecoach robbery. Rear of cylinder retains all of its original safety pins which are in fair condition. These are usually worn off but all five are still present on this gun. Screws are in Good+ to Very Good Condition overall...many still showing portions of their original blue. The original walnut grips don't disappoint either...they are in Excellent condition, still showing 98% of their original varnish. The walnut still has its original light orange-red tones...not darkened by dirt, oil, etc. Wedge still holds the barrel tightly to the frame. Bore is very good with strong rifling. Mechanics are Very Good as well. All in all, an exceptionally strong example of an early Colt Model 1849 pocket revolver.
