Colt Model 1849 Revolver --EARLY PRODUCTION--

This is a very respectable little Model 1849 Colt Pocket Percussion Revolver that's early production with the small oval trigger guard. Serial number is in the 82,000 range and was made in 1853. Features: standard 4" octagon barrel in .31 caliber with five- shot cylinder, and early two-line New York barrel address. The 1849 was a favorite carry weapon of both Union and Confederate soldiers during the Civil War. There were countless ambrotype photographs of soldiers posing with these Model 1849 Pocket Revolvers.

Overall Condition Grades to Very Good+ Condition per NRA ANTIQUE condition guidelines. 100% ALL MATCHING NUMBERS (see photos). Frame shows 25% case colors which have silvered out with balance turned to a smooth brown patina. Hammer has 10% silvery remains of case colors while the fulcrum of the loading lever retains about 40%. Barrel has turned mostly to brown patina but if you look closely, there is still original blue running streaked down the flats of the octagon...probably about 10-15% overall orig. blue. The cylinder scene has a strong 97% of its roll-engraved scene depicting a stage coach robbery (see photos). Safety pins (located on the rear lugs between the percussion nipples) have been worn down to nubs but they're still there having never been filed down or removed (see photo). Screws show traces of original blue. The best part of this gun is that it retains 97% of its original silver plating on both the trigger guard, front strap, bottom strap, and back strap. Just fantastic to see this level of plating remaining on a 158 year old Colt! The walnut grips are excellent overall and retain 87% original varnish. It would be about 97% with the exception of a small area on the upper right grip handle where the varnish is missing (see photo). Grips have perfect wood-to-metal fit with no chips, cracks, or repairs...completely untouched. The action works fairly good...indexes perfect...locks up, barrel tight to the frame. Very Good bore with strong lands and grooves. All in all, a very solid example of an early Colt '49 with some original finish, nice grips, and super cylinder scene.
