This is a fairly early example of a Colt 1849 Pocket Revolver with the small brass trigger bow. The serial number is in the 117,000 range which dates its manufacture to the year 1856. The 1849 was highly prized by its owners as a personal carry weapon with many seeing service during the Civil War on both sides. This one has 100% matching numbers including wedge and arbor pin. Barrel marking has the early style two-line New York address (See photo). Left side of the frame marked "COLT'S PATENT". Cylinder retains nearly all of its roll-engraved scene with all five of its safety pins intact. Overall Condition grades to NRA Antique Fine with 20% thinning original barrel blue with a few light abrasions. Case colors on frame have all but silvered-out to gray. Brass trigger guard shows 80% original silver plating while the backstrap shows a bit more wear with 40% remaining. Nice walnut grips have 85% original varnish with no chips, cracks, or repairs. Nice mechanics. Wedge still seats barrel tightly to the frame. Very Good bore. Nice 1849 Pocket in well-above-average condition for 150+ years old.
