Colt 1849 Pocket Revolver Mfd in 1853

This is a nice crisp and quite early example of the Colt Model 1849 Pocket Percussion Revolver. Serial number is in the 61,000 range which dates its production to the year 1853. It has the early style "small" trigger guard with 4" barrel and five shot cylinder in .31 caliber. Barrel is marked with the early style two-line New York address. 100% all matching numbers including the wedge. See photos.

Overall, it grades to NRA Antique Fine+ Condition retaining 50% original barrel blue that is present but thinning along the flats and strong in protected areas. Case colors on the frame are about 20%...stronger in protected areas with balance faded to a silvery gray with some smoky shadows from original colors. Note: these early 1850's era Colts had more subdued case colors in contrast to ones with brighter colors found on late production guns. The cylinder has worn to gray with 97% strong roll-engraved scene remaining depicting a stagecoach robbery. See photos. Rear of cylinder has all five of its safety lugs intact. Brass trigger guard shows 10% original silver while the backstrap has 95% of its original silver which is unpolished and remains dark from years of storage. The grips are in Excellent shape with perfect wood-to-metal fit and 98% original varnish remaining. There are zero chips, cracks, or repairs. Mechanically, the action works flawlessly. Barrel to frame lock-up is tight with no play in the wedge area. Wedge even shows quite a bit of original blue internally. Bore is Excellent. This gun did not see much use. An exceptional example of a 158 year old Gold Rush era and pre-Civil War era Colt Model 1849 Pocket Revolver.
