This is a fairly early example of the Model 1849 Pocket Revolver mfd by Colt in Hartford CT in 1853.  Serial number is in the 70,000 range with 100% all matching numbers throughout.  Has the early type small trigger guard, 2 line New York City barrel address, and 4" barrel.  This is a nice untouched example that is completely original down to the screws. Even the nipples are originals with the tiny "COLT'S PATENT" marks on the lugs.  It still has some good original finish and lots of silver left on the trigger guard and back strap.   Overall condition grades to NRA Antique Fine with 30% thinning original blue on the barrel.  Trigger guard and backstrap still retain a remarkable 90-95% orig silverplating that shows some blistering with a nice un-polished oxidation over much of the surface. Frame case colors are mostly faded to silver w/some mottling...balance turned to light patina.  Note:  Early Colts did not have bright case colors. Good traces of case colors on the lever mixed with patina.  The  Cylinder shows 98% of its cylinder scene depicting the robbery of a stage coach. Back of cylinder has never been filed...still has all five safety pins...which are a bit mashed. Nipples are good and are not rusty...all 5 still unscrew with a Colt Wrench. Very good mechanics. Wedge still holds the barrel tightly to the frame and there is zero lateral movement of the cylinder between the recoil shield and barrel.  Bore is good but has some pits...with strong lands and grooves. May clean better.  Original walnut grips show 98% original varnish with only minor handling marks.  Perfect wood to metal fit.  No chips or cracks.  Just a nice untouched example of an early Colt 49 Pocket revolver.
