This is decent example of an 1850's-60's era Iron bullet Mold for the Colt Models 1849 Pocket and 1855 Root Pocket revolvers in .31 Caliber. The sprue cutter is lightly but clearly stamped "COLT'S PATENT" while the right side of the mold body is marked "31 PKT" for .31 Caliber Pocket Revolver. This would be correct for all Colt 1849 Pocket Models and some Root revolvers in .31 Caliber. Remember, early production Roots were in .28 Caliber. The mold is in generally good condition with a dark brown patina, legible markings, and some scattered light pitting. The mold cavities need a good cleaning as they have some light closet rust. The ball cavity looks fine...the conical needs a little more cleaning but should cast a fairly decent projectile. If you have a Colt 1849 pocket or Root revolver in fair to Good+ condition, this would make a great accessory. Would also go nicely with a well-used cased gun or set.
