This is an early American steel helmet from the First World War.  As you can see, it has a great camoflage color scheme setting it apart from the ordinary olive drab ones we most often see.  I've been told these helmets were often painted when the Americans arrived in France in 1918 possibly by local French artists.  This helmet has a great look to it with lots of color and a great patina.  We will guarantee this is original World War camoflage and not a recently done camo scheme.  The colors are red, blue, green, tan, light blue, white, black, and brown.  The helmet shows numerous light scrapes and abrasions from combat or general use.  The liner and chinstrap are missing with much of the original weathered felt inside the crown still intact.  The inside of the helmet still has much of its original green paint with some light surface rust.  A great Doughboy helmet with loads of original patina.  Given the great look to it, we would strongly advise NOT removing of its original history by cleaning it.  This is exactly the condition that experienced collectors would hope to find.
