This is an original 19th Century Mail Order two loop holster for a Colt Single Action Revolver with a 4 3/4" barrel. This is a good example of the type of holster you would get through the mail by ordering out of the early Sears & Roebuck or Montgomery Ward catalogs during the latter part of the 19th century. Typical of most Mail Order holsters, the leather is not marked with a maker's name except for what looks like a catalog number "110 26" located on the back panel just below the lower loop. The holster is in good condition with all of the stitching intact and no repairs. Thel eather has not been cleaned or had preservative put on it and shows lots of nice tooled floral patterns. The only modification to this holster is where someone removed a small piece of the original leather around the triggerguard area---probably so they could brandish their revolver a little faster. We put a 4 3/4" Colt SAA in this holster and its an absolute perfect fit...in fact you can see the ghost pattern where the SAA ejector rod housing and cylinder formed into leather over many years. This would be the perfect companion to a nice but somewhat worn Colt Single Action!
