Winchester 1894 sporting rifle with special order takedown frame.  26" octagon barrel, full magazine, and crescent rifle buttplate.  Caliber is .30 WCF aka (30-30).  According to the Winchester Book by George Madis, it was manufactured in 1897. Nice walnut stocks with some very nice tiger striping.  Side of barrel marked "NICKEL STEEL BARREL ESPECIALLY FOR SMOKELESS POWDER".  Original semi-buckhorn rear sight and front sight w/german silver blade.  Takedown lever on the end of the magazine has its correct June 6, 1893 patent date.  Early style 2 line barrel address and correct maker, model, patent date markings on the upper tang.  Early style hammer with the decorative dipped border. 

Overall condition grades to NRA Antique Fine+ to Excellent.  Receiver retains 80% original blue with some forging striations peaking through the blue.  Note: Some collectors think these are scratches but they're actually in the metal due to Winchester's forging process and commonly seen on many early 1894's.  Hammer and lever show considerable amounts of original fading case colors.  Loading port and extractor atop the bolt have considerable original tempered fire blue remaining.  Barrel and magazine tube have 90%+ original blue with a little loss behind from the retaining band...this is honest wear from unscrewing the mag tube while using the takedown feature.  Wood is in excellent shape.  Completely untouched with perfect wood to metal fit and has never been cleaned or sanded on.  No chips, cracks, or repairs.  Rear of stock has some excellent curl...very fine dark lines with tight grouping...much like maple.  The forearm has some light curl as well. Action works nicely.  Bore is bright and shiny and in Excellent condition.  A nice clean example of an early Model 1894 Winchester takedown rifle.  This is a lot of gun for the money!
