This is a standard Winchester 1894 rifle with 26" octagon barrel, full magazine, and crescent rifle buttplate. Caliber is .30 WCF. Has the early platinum-lined Express Sight which is usually found on early smokeless rifles. Front sight is a correct-period Lyman with what appears to be an Oct. 6 1895 patent date. Its been there forever. Antique Serial number is in the 80,000 range. Made in 1896. Has all the correct early markings including the 2 line barrel address on the top flat of the oct barrel AND 3 lines on upper tang marked 1. -WINCHESTER- 2. MODEL 1894 3. PAT. AUG. 21 1894. Hammer has the correct dipped border on the hammer checkering.
Overall condition grades to NRA Antique Excellent. Frame has 80% original blue with 75-80% fire blue on the loading port. Extractor also shows 40-50% of its tempered blues and straw. 50% case colors on hammer. 5-10% on Lever in protected areas...balanced turned to silver. Excellent markings and screws. Barrel and Magazine tube show 90% original blue. Wood is in Fine condition with nice wood to metal fit. No chips, cracks, repairs, or extra holes. Nice mechanics and an Excellent bore! This is just a nice clean, unaltered example of an early Model 1894 sporting rifle with a desirable octagon barrel and antique serial number.
