This is an early Winchester Model 1892 SRC with a low antique serial number in the 18,000 range. Mfd in 1893. Lots of nice early features on this one including an early block-type Model 1873 front sight. Only seen a few with these and they're all early production. Caliber is 38-40 with standard 20" barrel, full magazine, saddle ring, ladder sights, and semi-crescent butt plate. Being so early, it has the decorative knurled hammer with the fancy dipped border, early 2 line barrel address, and patent dates on the lower tang. Early type rear sight graduated 200-900 yards. Letters correctly with the Cody Museum:

Overall condition is NRA Antique Very Good. Metal has turned mostly to a light grey patina with strong traces of original blue in protected areas. Barrel and magazine tube still show about 20% original faded blue. Nice edges and markings throughout. Left side of frame has an attractive ring pattern with original blue located in the shadow areas surrounding the ring. Screws all have very good slots...none are boogered. Wood is Good+. Not sanded with some original finish still on the stock. Shows some nicks and little dings...mostly on the left side. Bore is excellent, still bright with strong rifling. No rings or bulges. Nice example of a early Winchester 1892 saddle ring carbine. Item# 0938
