This is an early Marlin Model 1892 in desirable .22 caliber with 24" octagon barrel, full magazine, and crescent rifle buttplate.  Best of all, it has a Pre-1898 antique serial number in the 140,000 range.  This is actually the second time we've had this little Marlin...the first time was several years ago and I remember thinking, "Wow, this is the best antique 1892 in .22 cal we'd ever had!"  Well, four years later, that still holds true for us.  We simply haven't seen a better Antique 1892 in .22 Cal  for sale! 

Overall, this Marlin is in NRA antique Excellent condition with 95% receiver blue with a few brown freckles.  Hammer retains 60% of its original case colors while the lever colors are shadowy having hazed over to a light brown patina.  Screw heads and sideplate screw still retain most of their original blue...this rifle wasn't used much!  Barrel and magazine tube retain 95% original blue with some light freckles and closet rust.  It also has the early non-adjustable fixed rear sight....similar to what one finds on the earliest Model 1890 Winchesters.  The wood is just fantastic!  Its still a light orange-brown color and retains 98% of its original Varnish with numerous light handling marks.  There are no chips, cracks, or repairs anywhere.  Excellent markings throughout including Barrel address with 1878, 1889, 1890, and 1892 patent dates.  Receiver has a rounded top marked "MARLIN SAFETY" in script.  Top tang is marked "MODEL 1892".  This rifle is 100% original down to the smallest screw with no extra holes or modifications of any kind to this rifle.  Last but not least, the bore is Near Excellent with perfect strong rifling and only a couple of pits.  Due to the nature of corrosive priming and black powder used during the 19th century, Nice bores on .22 Caliber rifles from this era are quite difficult to find.  This rifle has everything a collector could ever want in a Model 1892.
