Marlin Model 1889 Rifle

This is Marlin's first Side-loader, the Model 1889 and forerunner to the Model 1894.  This is a standard Sporting Rifle in Caliber 38 Winchester (38-40) with a 24" round barrel, full magazine, crescent buttplate. Pre-1898 Antique Serial number in 48,000 range. The main and perhaps the  only difference between the 94 and the 89 is the latter has the lower portion of its breech block exposed at the bottom of the frame between the trigger and the lever.

Overall, this rifle is a nice all original example in NRA Antique Very Good condition. The metal mostly turned to a light brown patina with original blue in the protected areas. There are a few light scratches and some chatter marks around the loading port screw.  Very Good Screws overall.  Nice markings and sharp edges throughout with "MARLIN SAFETY" in script across the top of the receiver.  Nice barrel address with 1887 and 1889 patent dates.  Original sights include the original long style Marlin-Ballard rear sight and original Rocky Mountain style front sight with German Silver blade.  Very Good+ Bore with strong rifling.  Wood is in Good+ to VG condition with no chips, cracks, or repairs.  Good tight wood to metal fit.  A nice example of an early Marlin-sideloader.
