This is a strong example of the hand-operated Winchester Model 1882 loading tool for the .44-40 cartridge. The 44-40 was one of the world's first reloadable cartridges making the repeating rifle practical on the frontier. This tool allowed owners of the Model 1873 and 1892 rifle to re-use their spent cartridges while on the frontier...an absolute necessity when the nearest town was often hundreds of miles away. Overall, the tool is in Fine+ condition with 75% original blue remaining and perfect markings including the Winchester address, caliber designation, and 1874/1882 patent dates. The decapping pin is missing as they so often are. A nice tool that would make a great accessory to any Winchester rifle or carbine in this caliber.
